Either I need new friends (social and real) or this is something experienced by every South African.
South Africans have a very irritating mannerism in that, when presented with something that has gone wrong or failed we all say; “So, who is responsible for that fuckup?”
We really need to change our mindset and rather say; “Let’s FIX it together!”
I find it very disingenous of people in power who for years tell business what to do, make the cost of doing business very expensive and raise the entry level into formal business to stupid heights doubling down like Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe who is quoted as saying that the private sector in South Africa should collaborate with the government in finding solutions instead of ‘just crying’ when things go wrong.
Apartheid:
We spent years in anunjust system that was finally dismantled over 30 years ago BUT we are still playing the blame game blaming our present woes on the past, blaming White Monopoly Capital, blaming apartheid spatial planning, blaming poor education, blaming colonialism – you name it.
All we need to do is to apologise, take hands together and work on building prosperity for all. Make no mistake prosperity for all is NOT relying on handouts or social grants, not increasing the number of people receiving aid but in setting our people free economically by allowing them to make their own decisions in terms of how muchthey are worth on the open market.
Spend 10 minutes in Parliament, 10 minutes in your local council meetings to see just how perfectly this bunch of miscreants have perfected the blame game – every other party is corrupt, racist, stupid, accordingto the party that holds the floor.
For once we need every single one of our political parties to put down their petty politics, join hands with all other parties and knuckle down to get South Africa ahead. Build up the gravy again politicians and then you will have something substantial to fight about.
Racism:
Like Gender Violence, Cultural Violence and the like we finally took apartheid laws off the statutes over 30 years ago. And yet, apartheid is blamed for all manner of atrocities and abhorrent behaviour. And now we use racism as a weapon when we abuse each other and other political parties.
We should not be classifying people according to race, period. What is next? Classifications and judgements according to religious beliefs? Classifications according to age? Classifications according to penis or bra size?
As an aside – racism is a very real manifestation in our youth and that, like in the bad old days of apartheid, comes from the parents. Parents of junior school children should know better. Try telling a 11 year old white child that they cannot be nasty back to the black child bullying them and calling them racist when they didn’t even know the term until it was foisted upon them by a little miscreant with a Julius Malema motormouth.
The next time someone asks who is to blame for the potholes, loadshedding, data shedding, credit slide, high cost of living….. reply thus; “Let’s FIX it!” And, how will you fix it? By treating every person in the world as someone with worth and voting in our elections to ensure that we get the government that YOU voted for – a government that will ensure that South Africa realises it’s full potential and becomes a financial powerhouse and destination of choice worldwide.
