Eskom will implement stage 2 load shedding from 08:00 this morning. This is likely to continue until 22:00 this evening.
“[This is]… because of a shortage of generating capacity as some of our power stations’ units are currently on maintenance. We will also use the day to build up reserves for the week ahead,” it said in a statement.
“Eskom would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.”
Eskom said on Thursday that unit 2 of the Koeberg nuclear power plant outside Cape Town will be shut down for three months from the end of August as part of routine refuelling and maintenance.
