Spotbouer and Kakdaler Gang Members Jailed

Relentless efforts made by SAPS members and investigators in arresting gang affiliates and securing convictions in the Northern areas is proving to be successful. On 3/08 the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit and the National Prosecuting Authority secured convictions in four cases.

Shane Jordaan a member of the Spotbouer gang was found guilty of possession of a firearm and ammunition and was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for possession of firearm and 3 years of for possession of ammunition. Effectively he will serve 10 years imprisonment.

In another case, Chivago Mapoe of the Kakdaler gang was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for attempted murder, 5 years for possession of a firearm and 3 years for possession of ammunition. Counts 2 and 3 will run concurrently so effectively he will serve 15 years in prison. Mapoe shot a 22 year old victim in September 2016 while he was walking in Chamois street in Helenvale.

Also on 3/08, accused Jerry Lamont was convicted for dealing in drugs and was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment suspended for 3 years.

Accused Patrick Louwskitter pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and was fined R2000 or 18 months in prison.

The Cluster Commander, Mount Road Cluster, Maj Gen Funeka Siganga has welcomed these sentencings and added that ‘it is through thorough investigation of the cases and the integrated partnership with the prosecuting authority that we, the SAPS, can enhance our strategy of achieving our goal of building a society where law abiding citizens in the Northern areas ARE and FEEL safe.’
