Imagine playing soccer on a field with ‘bunkers’, rough and not much of a fairway – one half is played uphill and the next downhill.
Such is the enthusiasm of Seaview Stars Coach, Lucas Mohapi and his players that the joy of the game takes precedence. The Seaview Stars is a soccer club formed out of residents in the Seaview informal settlement.
In a demonstration of people working together to solve a cross cultural problem, Lucas and a number of benefactors have come together to form the soccer club. The local Kwikspar donated soccer uniforms and kit and local resident Stu Davidson the use of a playing field which he will flatten out soon.
In the video below, Chantal de Lange of the Seaview Times says; “People are quite anxious to bring all the different cultures together because of the certain problems that there are as a result of an informal settlement.”
Fair brought a bit of moisture to my old rheummy eyes did this video.
