Sheryl says that Oom Ben was the best Mayor NMB ever had

On 29/01/2020 Ben Fihla: 2013 to 2015 was nominated as the best Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality Executive Mayor since 1994 by Sheryl and scored 7/10.

Of all the Mayors we have had, Oom Ben was one of the most genuine ones. Not much controversy, not much strife, just calm. Sure he was probably not as dynamic or controversial as others.

I once witnessed him attend an evening event that he drove himself to WITHOUT an accompanying barrage of bodyguards and hangers-on, alone and dignified.

And it is for THAT reason that he gets my vote as the best Mayor – he was truly trying to be a ‘Man of the People’

The purpose of this little exercise is to get some feedback from the people that really matter – the ratepayers of Nelson Mandela Bay and hopefully the admin staff, the people that are paid to show up and deliver every day.

So, when answering please consider a few points: Choose the Mayor that best represents the city values, that made you feel comfortable, that in your opinion would make you want to come to work every day, that appeared to make municipal employees feel part of a team, that made you confident that there would be no corruption, that there were no favours, that people were recognised and placed on merit, that didn’t make you feel that municipal employees had better vote for him/her or lose their jobs.
