Local hospitality and tourism business Mantis has created a world first collaboration in ‘Executive Burnout’, called Resurgence through Nature with Mantis

Mantis, collaborating with a highly qualified medical team, has developed a revitalising burnout programme for executive-level individuals. Resurgence through Nature with Mantis is the first global programme that offers an exclusive 14-day individually guided process using nature as the backdrop while enjoying luxurious accommodation and hospitality.

Launching on Monday 5 July 2021, the all-inclusive programme (accommodation, meals, excursions, medical and psychological processes) is a unique partnership between boutique hospitality through Mantis, and the medical processes, provided by experienced doctors, specialists, and therapists.

Burnout manifests itself as the experience of deep exhaustion, disconnection, an imbalanced lifestyle, feeling overwhelmed and negativity about work. This often leads to decreased productivity. Burnout requires attention, and the right vehicle to return to vitality and drive.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that burnout is not a distinct medical condition but a syndrome that results from prolonged workplace stressors. It affects up to 68% of people, including high-functioning individuals, and seen amongst management, medical specialists, entrepreneurs, and other high-stress occupations.

Programme creator and clinical psychologist, Konrad van Staden says “Our unique programme delivered by our hand-picked and highly qualified team leads the way in Resurgence through Nature. With our individual after-care follow-up programme we develop a sustainable impact”.

The programme uses a unique layered approach, with nature as the catalyst. The programme is divided into three phases, each with a particular purpose, while interweaving the entire process into a coherent experience of healing from the tiredness and disconnection of the body and mind. These Phases are 1: Assessment and Rest, 2: Eco-therapy and Reconnection, and 3: Integration and Preparation. Phase 1 and 3, is accommodated at the luxury No5 Boutique Hotel in Nelson Mandela Bay and Phase 2 at the luxurious Mantis’ Founders Lodge, adjacent to the world renowned Shamwari Game Reserve.

It is the first programme in the world that combines particular elements together in a scientific and experiential process to help the person successfully become stronger and more effective in dealing with the exhaustion, cynicism, meaninglessness, and change in productivity of burnout. The emphasis of the process and programme is on the individual, although some of the activities, such as the nature walks will be done in a group, there will be no group process and interrelation dynamics.

Support and guidance continues after completion. Guests will be connected to the follow-up process to continue the journey towards growth and health.

The team:

  • Konrad van Staden: Programme Director, Clinical Psychologist and Jungian Analyst (candidate), Eco-therapist, and developer of the Resurgence Through Nature with Mantis Programme.
  • Dr Konrad von Hagen: Sports Physician, 2019 Rugby World Cup winning team doctor, Musculo-Skeletal and Sleep specialist.
  • Chris Breedt: Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, who has a history working with executives, elite sportspeople, and military special forces.
  • Prof. Stoffel Grobler: Expert in corporate mental health and Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Dr Lizanne Pieterse: Sports Physician, with a diploma in mental health, making her a unique member of the team.
  • Nika Grobler: Occupational Therapist and occupational mental health specialist.

The Luxury Accommodation:

  • Mantis No5 Boutique Art Hotel in Summerstrand, Nelson Mandela Bay.
  • Mantis Founders Lodge, adjacent to and with traversing rights on, Shamwari Game Reserve.

The launch cost of the Eastern Cape programme will be R180 000.00 per person VAT (15%) included for the 14-day period.

Negotiations are currently under way with medical aids, to provide coverage for a portion of the programme. This will be the first of many destinations to form part of the programme which will be hosted at various Mantis properties throughout Southern Africa.
