SAPS May Halt Progress

At the draw to decide the the venue for the Eastern Cape Super 12 Club Rugby final, the SAPS rugby club were fortunate enough to have their name pulled out of the hat first. IN so doing SAPS will host this Saturday 26 March Final at Kemsley Park with the kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm against their old rivals, Progress.

Both teams narrowly won their respective semi-final matches with SAPS overcoming a very spirited African Bombers side 21-19 at Zwide Stadium last Saturday whilst Progress needed extra time to beat Gardens 19-16 in a rescheduled Semi-Final match this past Monday.

SAPS will go into the final full of confidence having beaten African Bombers at Zwide Stadium, a venue which is showing signs of being a fortress for the newly-promoted side, and will look to make the best of their home ground advantage.

Progress, on the other hand, after getting off to a slow start to the competition will depend on their steel-like nerves to see them home. An early first round defeat could have spelt doom and gloom but instead the team have gone on to churn out the necessary results week in and week out.

Kemsley Park will be a hive of activity and excitement on Saturday. Fans and supporters are encouraged to arrive at the grounds early. No glass, sharp objects, weapons or alcohol will be permitted into the grounds. A thorough search will be conducted by the security on all vehicles and personnel entering Kemsley Park.

EP Rugby representative Sakhi Gqeba said; “We are looking forward to the continued growth of club rugby in our region and this final represents an opportunity for us to gauge the depth of our rugby.”
