The word I would use to describe the Saints FC junior tournament would be “outstanding”. The chairman Mr Greg Kops stated towards the end of the day that for the first time in many years he was relaxed as things had run so smoothly. Even the weather that was so rainy and cold earlier in the week was something to behold. But the day was about the junior footballers. From age group U9 to U17 the standard of football was something to behold and the enthusiasm and excitement was etched on the faces of all the players. And on this woman’s day it was good to see the young girls giving their best and not standing back for any of the young lads. But as in all games there are winners and losers but in the end soccer was the eventual winner. The prize winners appear below.
Team awards:
U9 runners up – Wolves; U9 winners – Hotspurs; U11 runners up – Saints; U11 winners – Fairview Rovers; U13 runners up – Windvogel All Stars; U13 winners – Glenville; U15 runners up – Glenville; U15 winners – Ebenezer; U17 runner up Bloom Callies; U17 winners Glenville; Team of the tournament – Glenville.
Individual Awards:
Referee of the tournament – A McKay; Coach of the tournament – J Leander of Ebenezer; Goalkeeper of the tournament – D Adams of Glenville; Top goalscorer of the tournament – L Weitz, U9 from Hotspurs; U9 player of the tournament – L Weitz (Hotspurs); U11 player of the tournament – W Ruiters (Fairview Rovers); U13 player of the tournament – Clayton Snyman (Glenville); U15 player of the tournament – Charl Reid (Fairview Rovers); U17 player of the tournament – James Meyer (Glenville) and then finally the overall player of the tournament was Charl Reid of Fairview Rovers.
The executive of Saints FC would like to express their thanks to all clubs and for the parents for allowing their children the opportunity to play in the event. God bless and see you all next year.
