Reeva Steenkamp – Another Sexy Port Elizabeth Woman in the Top 100

17 June 2011 By Alan Straton

14 February 2013: Click Here for Reeva and Oscar update.

Super sleuth Ramon Thomas has alerted me once again to another Port Elizabeth woman in the FHM sexiest women in the world list.

Reeva Steenkamp, who graduated from St Dominics Priory in 2001 appears at number 40 on the Top 100 list.

The internet information available on Reeva is pretty dismal and consists mostly of her Ice Model profile, her Twitter and Facebook accounts along with quotes in local newspaper, Die Burger, from when she was 14 years of age and going back to school. Looks like Reeva has done quite a good job of providing her name, rank and vital statistics and nothing else on the interweb.

What is it that makes those convent girls irrestible and, like the Longhair, a source of concern for the good sisters?

By the way Hagen, this is the second punt for FHM in a week – about time you sent that cheque! OR, you could just send me a list of all the Port Elizabeth woman on the sexy list!

14 February 2013 Update on Reeva Steenkamp:

In a tragic event, South Africa’s paralympian athlete Oscar Pistorius has allegedly accidentally shot dead his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at approximately 3:00 am at his home in Pretoria, South Africa.

The 26-year-old Pistorius, known as the Blade Runner because of the carbon fibre blades he runs on after having his legs amputated below the knee, has allegedly accidentally shot Reeva Steenkamp dead on Thursday morning, Beeld reported.

He had mistaken her for a robber, the Afrikaans daily reported on its website on Valentine’s Day.

Police spokesperson Captain Sarah Mcira confirmed she was shot in the arm and head. She died on the scene.

The Eastern Cape horse racing fraternity was shocked by the tragic news of the death of model Reeva Steenkamp who died in the shooting incident.

Her father is recently retired horse trainer, Barry Steenkamp.

The 29 year old model, Reeva Steenkamp was born in Cape Town on 19 August 1983, and moved to Port Elizabeth as a child. Reeva attended the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) and graduated with a law degree. She was well-known amongst the Port Elizabeth racing fraternity. Reeva Steenkamp on Twitter.

Most recently, Reeva was one of a group of seven celebrities and seven contestants taking part in the annual Tropika Island of Treasure 5 reality competition television series filmed in Jamaica. The show airs its first episode on Saturday, February 16 on SABC 1.

Samantha Moon, the executive producer and creator of Tropika Island Treasure, said; “I would like everyone to know her as an intelligent, fierce, fearless woman. She was exceptionally caring and generous and truly loving. One of the things the contestants often joked about was that you couldn’t be in Reeva’s company for five minutes without being afflicted by ‘Reeva Fever’.”

Sarit Tomlinson, the managing director of Capacity Relations which managed Steenkamp, gushed about the law graduate and actress’ approach to life. “Everyone that met Reeva will tell you the same thing, that she was the kindest, most down to earth girl with the most endearing personality. She was always about making other people happy and ensuring her friends and family were smiling. She really was a pure soul,” Tomlinson recalled.

Friends said; “Reeva loved tea. She thought it was a universal panacea and any problem could be solved with it. She also loved scones.”

Hagen Engler, a former editor of the South African edition of FHM magazine, for which Steenkamp had been the cover star, said he had known her since around the age of 15 in Port Elizabeth, where they both grew up. “She was an amazing girl, a really intelligent person,” he said.

“She went into the modelling industry and had a mature understanding of it. She had a funny sense of humour, like a guy’s sense of humour. She was talented and was starting to succeed. The girl was really going places.”

Her death came as a “hammer blow”, Engler said. “I heard the news … then it was like: ‘I know her, oh my God.’ I’ve been trying to process it. It’s a real tragedy that such a bright girl has gone.”

Shashi Naidoo of Alushi model agency in Johannesburg, which represented Steenkamp, said: “It’s still a big shock to us. I’ve known Reeva for years and she was an incredible, beautiful soul. It’s shocking. An amazing girl has gone too soon.”

Another acquaintance, who did not wish to be named, said: “She was a lovely girl and her career was just taking off. She had a big heart and was at the forefront of many pro bono projects. She wouldn’t hurt a fly. It’s a tragic loss.”

Her former headmaster Greg Stokell described her as popular a “vibrant, friendly, diligent, and motivated student who was popular with and respected by staff and peers alike.”

He added: “The St Dominic’s Priory school community in Port Elizabeth is both shocked and saddened by Reeva Steenkamp’s sudden and tragic death.”

At some point we have to hear from Reeva Steenkamp's loved ones. Oscar's fame must not cause us to unwittingly relegate their loss.

Is this website becoming a smut site?  Seems like it.  Is this the only to attract viewers.  Cheap and disgusting.  Very sexist.

Entirely correct 123. You wouldn’t believe how many people also visited THIS ARTICLE for a cheap thrill as well.

Admittedly there are only three articles out of the over 1400 published so far this year that fall into your cheap and disgusting category, but, it appears that we will NOT need to increase that ratio as you deem it large enough to determine that MyPE is becoming a smut site – open any women’s magazine for comparison please.

Strange that you should complain right after we deleted the more adult orientated business categories and listings in the MyPE Directory – one of which was constantly in the Top 10 most read on MyPE and WAS attracting viewers.

Bet you DIDN’T notice that hey?

And now the tragic shooting of Reeva Steenkamp – our thoughts and prayers go to her family and friends – you too 123!

Alan always loved your sense of humour. Keep up the good work on MyPE.

Thanks for this tribute Alan. I will write my own on shortly once there’s more facts. I met Reeva at Montecasino in Fourways, and we were in touch for a long time. We have some mutual friends like Shashi Naidoo, also from PE. If you hear anything about a funeral, please let me know because I’ll make time to attend.

Reeva is due to be cremated at the Victoria Park Crematorium in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday 19 February after an 11:00 am private memorial service.
