Redhouse Yacht Club Profile to Change Slightly

Standing right next to the Redhouse Yacht Club is an old (around 100 years old) shed that initially served duty as a Sail Shed and over the years has been battered by storms and floods.

The wood and iron shed has become a bit of a risk to life and limb and no insurance company has expressed any interest in providing cover of the building or any liabilities that may arise from damage to life or limb.

Redhouse Commodore, Andrew Butler writes; “To some the old shed has become an eyesore and a hindrance, but to many and especially those from the Village it has been a symbol of the memories of growing up on the river and watching their kids and grand-kids learning the skills that bring us all back to this place year after year.”

On Sunday after formal sailing members of the Redhouse Yacht Club led by Admiral of the Dinghy Fleet, Chief Curmudgeon and Broom Mechanic of Note, Frank Collier, will be holding a little farewell event. Frank has promised a little bit of history and some humorous anecdotes accompanied by some pretty damn fine Port to accompanying the lowering of flags.

The Admiral has asked that all who wish to wave the Sail Shed goodbye bring flowers and candles for the ‘vigil’ which will take place between 14h00 and 14h30.
