Red Location Community Preparing to tap into Economic Opportunities

The Red Location Museum continues to be abuzz with thousands of visitors streaming to and from the Museum, who all not only visit the spaces of the Precinct, but furthermore travel through the streets and avenues of the surrounding community – who are predominantly unemployed and unskilled.

It’s therefore very heartening to witness more and more of our community members being drawn closer – where they are afforded opportunities to prepare themselves into tapping into the economic possibilities created through this spectacular Precinct, situated right in the center of their midst, by the means of creating arts and crafts products.

Although the Red Location Arts and Crafts Project is still at its beginning stages (and a spin-off from the Block 40 Quilters which was established in 2011), it is already drawing great attention and interest from major stakeholders who see this initiative as a platform that they would like to invest in – as part of their a social responsibilities and/or to further share their resources, skills and talents with the community members.

The crafters have decided to concentrate for now on creating textile jewellery pieces from a mixture of new, recycled materials and found objects, which they hope to market in December.
