See the Youtube video of the latest break in the sewerage pipe from Motherwell. The sewage is flowing down into the Markman Canal which enters the Swartkops in the Brickfields area. The flow is at least 1200 liters per min. This is all flowing past the poor Aloes Community on its way to the Swartkops.
This is at least the 10th break in this 1Km section of the pipeline since October & sewage has been flowing off & on for most of this time.
We have been reporting leaks & helping the metro where we can all this time.We have been working closely with Water Affairs (DWAS) & want to express our thanks to them & especially to David Bligh for all his time & help with the problem.
The latest news is that the cause of the problem is at Fishwater Flats WWTW where there is a blockage & until this is sorted out the breaks will continue happening.

Poor maintenance and badly built infrastructure is causing havoc with the Swartkops River. 20 liters per second of raw sewage is flowing into the river, the 11th most important in South Africa.
