R100 000 IN REWARDS FOR SA’s SMARTEST LEARNERS

4 August 2021 By Port Elizabethan

R100 000 cash is up for grabs in this year’s The IIE’s Varsity College National High Schools’ Quiz, which will be hosted on all of the brands’ campuses nationally as well as the IIE MSA campus. The quiz aims to encourage high school learners to expand their knowledge by engaging with various sources of information.

2021’s questions will focus on geography, history, science & nature, sport, entertainment and current affairs. It will take the form of a general knowledge quiz, in a ‘Trivial Pursuit’ style, but adapted for high school learners and including current events.

Says Louise Wiseman, Managing Director at The IIE’s Varsity College, “We’re excited about hosting a new format of the High Schools’ Quiz this year, across our campuses nationally. We’re happy that young people with curious minds can again have a platform to display their love for knowledge and have it rewarded. We have improved the quiz to provide a better experience for the participants. This year, an exciting change made is that learners will now enter as individuals instead of as members of a team, with up to four individuals per school permitted to enter. This change will allow for strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols.”

Prize details are as follows:
Each regional winner will receive a Samsung tablet and a cash prize of R2 500.00

Each regional winner’s champion (teacher/coach) will receive a R500.00 voucher

The national winner will receive a cash prize of R10 000.00

The national winner’s school will receive a cash prize of R10 000.00

The national winner’s champion (teacher/coach) will receive a cash prize of R5 000.00

The second prize winner at nationals will receive a cash prize of R6 000.00 and R3 000.00 for their champion (teacher/coach)

The third prize winner at national will receive a cash prize of R3 000.00 and R1 500.00 for their champion (teacher/coach)

The schools of the second and third prize winners will receive a cash prize of R6 000.00 each

Entries, available via The IIE’s Varsity College website, newspaper adverts and posters (QR code), will close on 31 July 2021. The top ten learners from each campus event/s will progress to the regional finals, and the top ten learners nationally will then advance to the national finals. Two quiz afternoons per campus will be staged during August at an IIE Varsity College campus. The regional finals will also be held in August. The top learners from each region will meet at the national finals, which will take place on 30 September. For this year’s IIE Varsity College High Schools’ quiz updates, keep an eye on The IIE’s Varsity College website, social media platforms and the local media.
