Protect, Preserve and Nurture our Children

4 June 2015 By Alan Straton

Child Welfare South Africa (CWSA) and affiliates throughout the country are participating in the National Child Protection Week from 31 May-7 June 2015.

The focus of Child Protection Week this week is to highlight prevention and protection of children from all abuse and neglect.

CWSA’s focus is on the creation of nurturing and secure environment, throughout South Africa, where children can grow up free of the fear of abuse and neglect. CWSA and affiliates in all nine provinces, serve over 2,5 million children.

A public campaign is being launched during this week, in support of the national theme, under the slogan: “Protect, Preserve and Nurture our Children”.

The purpose is to facilitate and encourage effective partnerships with the Department of Social Development and other stakeholders as CWSA works toward creating a strong protective safety net for ALL our children.

The recent reports of brutal deaths of children through violence and sexual violence have underlined the vulnerability of our children in need. Steps must be taken to protect, preserve and nurture our children by raising public and community awareness.

The number of vulnerable children at risk continues to grow, despite our best efforts, and we must focus on raising awareness and vigilance amongst all our people in order to, together, put a stop to any form of abuse against our children.

We trust that this initiative will facilitate and encourage communities to work together with Child Welfare in creating a nurturing and secure environment, throughout South Africa, where children can grow up free of the fear of abuse and neglect.

CWSA offers many programs on prevention and early intervention to equip children and adults in coping effectively with challenging situations

CWSA would like the week to be a reminder to all South African citizens, government and civil society alike, that the protection of children must be a matter of high priority to all.

Become a partner in the protection of children in your home and in your neighborhood by reporting offenders and supporting actions that protect and keep children safe and secure!

“We at CWSA can make a difference as we believe that a Child in need is a need in deed. Will you help CWSA make a difference in your community by your deeds and actions? We need your help to do so. WILL YOU HELP?” asks the National Executive Director of Child Welfare South Africa, PJ Cloete.

Wear a green ribbon to show your support during launch of child Protection week from the 1 June 2015.
