Probe into abuse of public funds needed in Eastern Cape

The IFP calls on police minister Nathi Mthethwa to urgently institute an investigation into the R920 million contract to install a new communication system called Tetra which has not happened since 2009.

The 10111 control room in Schauderville is standing empty, with a contract price of R220 million and the R920 million Tetra system, including radios, is locked in storage. The police management must be held accountable for wasting taxpayers’ money on a dysfunctional system.

We don’t condone any form of corruption and that’s why during our Manifesto launch we stated that we plan to investigate all cases of corruption and prosecute the offenders in specially-mandated corruption courts. People cannot trust the police if corruption is rampant.

The IFP calls on the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner to investigate this contract deal. In addition, the minister of Police must audit all projects that are managed by provincial SAPS and anyone found guilty of corruption must be arrested and removed from the police service.
