A quick roundup of mentions of Port Elizabeth in blogs around the world for Monday 4 April 2011.
MyPE provides this roundup in order to promote Port Elizabeth and to encourage fellow bloggers to expand their coverage of Port Elizabeth and surrounds.
As expected news of the Ironman and local hero Raymond Tissink’s wonderful win dominate the blogs today.
Confounding the weather fundis yet again – Sunday was a stunning day. MyPE made it’s weary way down to the Port Elizabeth harbour at 4:30 am yesterday to catch a ride with the Expert Tours Ironman support rubber duck. We waited around at PEDSAC for over 90 minutes for an international TV crew to arrive – we had to leave without them though. Then we found out that they were turned away at the harbour gate by our ever meddling security guards who said no media were allowed in – NOW you know why the coverage of the watersport was dismal! Never fear though – when I get a chance to mine my images of the swim yesterday I shall publish a few.
Look out for the SA Rugby blog below which is rewriting the rugby rule book by reporting that the EP Kings beat the Griquas on Saturday 26 – 26. The actual score was 26 – 16 in favour of the EP Kings!

Something really needs to be done about harbour security
Compounding the ‘problem’ was that the TV Crew was late – if they had arrived during the night shift (which went off at 6:00 am) I am almost sure that they would have been waved through.
The ‘trick’ is to NOT mention the word ‘media’ at the entrance and ‘bluff’ your way through.
I have been told by security supervisors that they know my vehicle and follow me via CCTV whenever I enter the harbour. So – I now go in driving the gas guzzler and; “Problem solved”.
Although – the PROPER PROCEDURE would have been for the Ironman organisers to organise Portnet media passes for those crew wishing to go out on boats exiting from the harbour.
I agree. I think the organisers slipped up on that one.
