Justin Erasmus, NSRI Port Elizabeth deputy station commander, said; “At 08h20, Saturday, 18th July, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) reporting 3 local men on a rubber-duck, approximately a nautical mile off-shore of St Georges Strand with motor mechanical failure, and requiring assistance.
“NSRI Port Elizabeth launched the sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER IV and on arrival on the scene found the 3 fishermen had managed to get their outboard motor running and we escorted them into the Swartkops River Mouth where they recovered their craft without incident and no further assistance was required.
“The men were commended for taking the necessary precaution of calling for assistance while making efforts to rectify the problem themselves.”
