PE Housebreaking Suspects Arrested

SAPS Mount Road detectives arrested three alleged housebreaking suspects during the early hours of Friday morning (23 September 2016).

It is alleged that during July to September 2016, the complainant was overseas when his house was broken into in 7th Avenue Newton Park. Upon his return last week, he discovered that most of his household content including his antique furniture was stolen. Three vehicles (VW Golf, Opel Kadette and an Opel Monza) was also stolen. The estimated value of all the household content including the vehicles are about R500 000.

On Thursday, 22 September 2016, police received information about the whereabouts of possible suspects. The information was followed up and a 21 year old woman and a 27 year old man was arrested in Kamma Park while a third suspect (29) was arrested in Sidwell.

Since the theft, the two vehicles (Monza and Kadett) were already stripped of its parts and sold for scrap metal. The VW Golf is still missing. Police have and are still recovering some of the stolen items however the antique furniture is yet to be recovered. Police is appealing to second hand dealerships to contact them if they have bought any antique furniture in the last three months. Information may be communicated to Detective Lieutenant Colonel Alvira Van Staden at SAPS Mount Road on 082 319 8424. All information supplied will be treated as confidential. Buying or receiving stolen property is an offence and those found in possession will be charged and prosecuted.

The suspects will appear in court on Monday, 27 September on a charge of housebreaking and theft.
