On Thursday rhis week, one day before Mandela Day, The Parlotones will be taking time out of their busy Winter tour schedule by spending the day in the city to pay homage to the late Nelson Mandela. On 17 July 2014 the award winning band are set to spend their 67 minutes on Route 67 in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Route 67 consists of 67 Public Art Works symbolising Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of work dedicated to the Freedom of South Africa and includes 67 steps leading to Madiba’s statue at the Donkin, where pictures of the band can be taken by the press. The band will start the walk from the Campanile and climb the staircase to Vuyisile Mini Market Square which is the centre of the City.
Thereafter the band will be making their way to popular local sushi bar Soho, to have lunch with a local fan who won a competition on The Parlotones Facebook fan page. The Parlotones will also be returning the Bay on the 21 August 2014 for their first ever “South African Unplugged Winter Tour.” The performance will take place at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre.
Nelson Mandela Bay fans can expect to hear the band perform a host of their hit singles such as ‘Radio Controlled Robots’ from their 2005 debut album to their most recent number 1 album ‘Stand Like Giants’. They will be supported by local band Cottonfields for their PE show.
