This comment illustrates the dangers of Satire when it is published online and a foreign speaking audience is exposed thereto

The above ‘statement’ is loosely attributed (by publication of her image and the comment; “And this is from the Minister of Education who wants to re-open school) to the South African Minister of Education, Angie Motshekga, in a ‘satiristic’ article on the SA Vine which SAYS; “The SA Vine is a satirical newspaper and website published by The News Vine South Africa.”

What the SA Vine is forgetting is that their satire is being shared with people who speak a foreign language and have an entirely different culture to ours.

The image is doing the rounds on WhatsApp and was shared with me by a friend. You can see from the names of people who have shared it with my friend that the image came from a person with a Germanic name (I have deleted the name in order to protect the stupid Darwin Award Candidate).

I can assure you that the Germanic people do NOT dance when angry, sing at funerals or make jokes when under pressure.

As much as I personally am not a sycophantic admirer of our embattled Angie I find this ‘satire’ disturbing and a hideous assault on South Africa and it’s people.

Frankly I would classify the SA Vine as more of a ‘clickbait’ site than a satirical news web site.

BUT – stop and think just how much damage the sharing of the accompanying image is doing to South Africa, investment and tourism as foreign people laugh at how ‘dumb’ we are.

OR am I once again being too sensitive?
