The President, Board, CEO and staff of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber mourn with the nation of South Africa at the passing of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. We convey our deepest sympathy and condolences to his widow, Graça Machel, the Mandela family, and indeed, to all South Africans.
It is through our actions that we should now celebrate his life.
We honour the man who has touched many lives as South Africa’s first democratically-elected president, an icon of peace, a leader of integrity, a man of the people and a son of our soil.
As citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay, we are called on to stand tall in his honour – to respect his vision for a united, democratic and peaceful South Africa, and to work together towards building a nation of doers and givers.
South Africa’s tallest tree has fallen. And its fall reverberates across all the rivers of Africa, and indeed, across the oceans of the world.
Every citizen is tasked with the responsibility to ensure that his legacy of servant leadership, humanity and reconciliation, forgiveness, dignity and love for young and old, rich and poor, across all divides, endures.
As the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, in the spirit of Ubuntu, we pledge in everything that we do as engaged and active citizens in this region, to continue to honour the name and legacy of the man whose name we are extremely proud to bear.
Hamba kakuhle Madiba
