An entrepreneurial young artist from the Bay has come up with an innovative plan to raise awareness of his music as well as raise funds to further his music career.
Gezlah Gazette is selling his music for just R1 on the streets! He is attending as many social events as possible to meet and greet his fans in person. He then sends any of his recorded songs to the fan’s cell phone via Bluetooth for just R1 per song.
Gazette is currently fund raising for a trip to Johannesburg where he will register his music with SAMRO as well as raise awareness of his music to a wider audience. He is a member of the Eastern Cape website, EC Talent (www.ectalent.co.za), which helps create awareness and publicity for its members online. “We are very happy to help Gezlah create awareness about this innovative project, as he is showing a great amount of initiative and drive to achieve his dreams,” says artist co-ordinator Sibongile Xaluva.
Gazette’s album, entitled “Making Ends Meet: Positive Thinking” includes six tracks recorded at ILL Spot by Litha Msizi. One of the most popular tunes is “Uthand’ekasi”.
Gezlah Gazette’s first name is an acronym meaning “Getting Eternal Zest Laid Against Hell” and his surname comes from the meaning of gazette “an official journal or printed sheet published periodically.” According to Gazette, his music is used to spread social awareness of these state of humanity in a newsy or ‘gazette’ fashion.
Gezlah Gazette is a young go-getter, highly involved in giving back to his local community, and uses his musical and poetic skills to teach kids through his Youth in Action programme and the monthly Elements of Hip Hop event which “brings together the culture and artists, uniting DJ’s, beat makers and various other artists under the umbrella of Hip Hop.” The sessions are held in NU 6 Square in Motherwell every last Saturday of the month.
The Youth in Action programme is “aimed at mobilizing the minds of the youth by teaching them to use poetry and music to share their knowledge and world views to build a constructive environment through growing social consciousness.”
Gazette also attends the Basement Project sessions held in Central every fortnight on Tuesdays.
This young artist is pushing himself up the ladder of fame, taking every opportunity that comes to him. To download one of his tunes, contact him on his cell (0785821469) or via his profile on Facebook or www.ectalent.co.za to find out where his next public appearance will be. There are also links to his music so fans can listen to the next big hit from his album.
Help Gezlah get to Johannesburg so that he can bring his knowledge back to the Eastern Cape by purchasing his tunes for just R1 each.
