Port Elizabeth’s Algoa Bay has been ‘invaded’ by several special vessels, all connected to the oil industry.
In the image below one can see a Brydes whale blow at the left front of the ship and lots of Gannets diving for Sardines. The Sardine run is presently taking place in Algoa Bay. This annual event draws thousand of Common Dolphins, Penguins, Gannets, Sharks and Whales into Algoa Bay to feed on the Sardines.
Overseas and local tourists are very interested in the Sardine Run and consequently make a strong case for the promotion of eco-tourism in Algoa Bay as a far more environmentally friendly and sustainable business solution than these oil giants.
Ocean Messengers NGO wants to strongly raise their concerns over the growing shipping traffic leading to increasing concerns over oil pollution exacerbated by the continuously ignorant posturing by Transnet and Shell in terms of the ongoing harbor pollution.
We Port Elizabethans need to unite and say NO to oil in the sea! We need to stop this nonsense before it affects our precious Algoa Bay to a point were no Whales, no Dolphins and no more tourists watching the BIG 7 will be found.
