NSRI Invites You to “Celebrate a Life”

2 July 2024 By Port Elizabethan

Andrew Ingram , NSRI Spokesperson, said: Join our “Celebrate a Life” Campaign as the 6th NSRI “ORC” offshore rescue craft, which will be based in the Port of Port Elizabeth in Gqeberha, nears completion.

The NSRI’s “Celebrate a Life” campaign is a unique opportunity to support the NSRI by adding your name or the name of a loved one to the NSRI’s new Offshore Rescue Craft (ORC), which will arrive at her base in the Port of Port Elizabeth in Gqeberha, in early September.

The ORC class of vessels is constructed entirely in South Africa. The innovative French designed rescue craft accommodates six NSRI volunteer rescue crew in shock-mitigating seats, allowing for high-speed operation in difficult sea conditions. It can carry up to twenty three survivors.

Each of these specialised ORC vessel costs an estimated R22 million.

As the construction of this modern offshore rescue boat nears completion, there is not much time to add a name to the vessel.

“For a donation of R1,000, you can add the name of a loved one to this rescue craft and give a unique and thoughtful gift, Says NSRI CEO Dr Cleeve Robertson, whose father’s name goes to sea with Rescue 17 Hermanus.

“Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, wedding or a special thank you – you can give a gift that supports a worthy cause and helps save lives,” he said.

How to Participate:

  • Visit the Celebrate a Life page on the NSRI website to add a name to the vessel.
  • Each contribution will go towards the operational costs and maintenance of the new rescue boat, directly impacting the efficiency and reach of the NSRI’s rescue missions.

Don’t miss the chance to make a tangible impact on maritime safety and celebrate the lives of those who have touched your heart. With the ORC destined to start sea trials at the end of July and to be on Station in early September, now is the time to act.
