The ANC’s Florence Snayers Branch (Ward 11) will be treating elderly Northern Areas residents to a “Tour Down Memory Lane” today, Tuesday 7 August 2012 as part of their heritage celebrations. Elderly residents from all over the Northern Areas have been invited to be part of this auspicious event, which will take the residents back to South End, Salisbury Park and Fairview, the areas from which many of them were forcibly removed in the 1960’s, when the Apartheid government implemented the Group Areas Act.
A bus will depart from the Jarman Hall, Highfield Road, Korsten at 10:00 am today to will take the residents for a tour through their old neighbourhoods, after which they will be treated to a lunch at the South End Museum, where they will be given the opportunity to share their memories of South End, Salisbury Park and Fairview.
Mr Cedric Frolick MP, chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee for sport is one of the organisers of the event and will also be in attendance.
