NMMU Alumni Festive Concert 2015

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Alumni Association Festive Concert, a celebration of student, alumni and community talent and achievement in support of the Alumni Bursary Fund, will take place on Wednesday, 6 May at 18:00 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Summerstrand.

“Last year more than 1000 people attended the event and we hope that the 2015 event will be a sold-out NMMU 10th anniversary celebration,” says Alumni Relations director Paul Geswindt.

More than 100 artists will perform including:

  • The Grey Voices (vocal ensemble) under the direction of Ruth Lyon
  • Winand Grundling and Dario Broccardo (organ and percussion)
  • The NMMU Horn Ensemble under the direction of Prof Erik Albertyn
  • Sulani Heunis (organ)
  • The NMMU choir
  • Shawn Lyon (trumpet)

Tickets at R50 a person or R30 for pensioners and students can be bought at the University Shop, Sanlam Student Village, University Way, Summerstrand, or at the Alumni Relations Centre, North Campus. Tickets will also be on sale at the venue on the evening but are limited due to the capacity of the venue.

Winand Grundling: BMus Performance cum laude graduate Winand Grundling is a renowned organist and won many awards throughout his career. He is the winner of the UNISA Overseas Music Bursary Competition in the organ category and overall and also received industry awards for his production 14 Stations of the Cross, which received two Kanna awards at the annual ABSA KKNK. In 2009 Grundling won the Mabel Quick Music Competition and was also the recipient of the Charles Bryars Bursary in 2007/2008 and was awarded the SANRO Merit Award in 2009. He currently teaches piano, organ and theory at the College of Arts in Wellington. His debut CD, Toccata!, was launched in 2009 and he released his second album 14 Stations of the Cross in 2012. Grundling has also delivered organ recitals at national and international level and was one of seventeen organists chosen worldwide to attend the International Organ School at Calgary in 2006.
