Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) celebrated Mandela Day on the 18 July as the organisation elevated their corporate social investment initiatives for the day by supporting a variety of causes to honor the birthday of our city’s namesake.

As an organisation Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism heeded the call to action and commenced the Mandela Month initiatives with CEO Ms Mandlakazi Skefile supporting the SOD turning (ground breaking) in aid of Khamvalethu School done by the Port of Ngquru on the 15 July 2016.

Ms Mandlakazi Skefile, CEO of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism confirms and shares, “Initiatives for Mandela Bay are vital in terms of motivating and encouraging empowerment in our areas. To carry on with Madiba’s legacy of restoring dignity is of upmost importance to have a beautiful and sustainable destination.”

Support was given to Hannah’s Arms in connection with Mr PE, Nicholas Affat, which is an organisation that rescues abandoned, neglected and abused babies. Their main focus is to ensure that vulnerable babies and toddlers in need of care are provided with a Place of Safety in a private home environment and their physical, medical, social, emotional and psychological needs are met in the transitional period before being returned to their parents or extended family or placed in an adoptive or foster home.
Later in the day Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism staff brought immense joy to the Home for the elderly in Motherwell as they delivered blankets and heaters to set them up for the winter months. Additional items were donated to assist in the improvement of the living conditions of the group of men and woman the home.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” – Nelson Mandela
