NMB Council Violence – Video Collection – #GlassJugsMustFall

29 October 2016 By Alan Straton

The SAPS have received cellphone footage showing ANC Councillor Andile Lungisa smashing a glass water jug on a DA Councillor Rano Kayser’s head during a heated brawl which degenerated into unprecedented violence in the Nelson Mandela Bay council this week. Apparently the footage shows Lungisa and ANC Councillor Makhi Feni near the speaker’s bench in an argument with DA Councillor Rano Kayser.

My take on this sorry incident is simple: “Politicians must remember that people look up to them for guidance. This ‘incident’ is most harmful to our image as the Friendly City.”

Below is YouTube footage from reporting on the brawl:

Blood flows in Nelson Mandela Bay council meeting – Herald Live – 28 October 2016: The ANC’s national leadership has strongly condemned the violence in Thursday’s Nelson Mandela Bay council meeting, saying it has no place in democracy. National spokesman, Zizi Kodwa, said no amount of “blame game” would ever explain or condone the bloodshed in the council chamber.

What happened at the NMB council meeting? – eNCA – 28 October 2016: What exactly transpired during a council meeting in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. The gathering was disrupted by violent confrontations on Thursday. The Herald political editor, Rochelle de Kock gives more insight.

ANC councillors in NMBM laid charges following council meeting brawl – SABC Digital News – 28 October 2016: Two ANC councillors in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro have laid criminal charges after yesterday’s violent brawl during a closed sitting of the council. The chief-whip of the DA in council has also laid a charge with the police after he was allegedly stabbed with a sharp object. DA councillor, Rano Kayser was treated for head and ear wounds after being allegedly hit with a glass water jug while ANC councillor, Rosie Daaminds, collapsed during the fracas. Both have been discharged from hospital.

NMB chaotic council meeting – Nobesuthu Hejana – 28 October 2016: At 1:43, Andile Lungisa accuses Executive Mayor Athol Trollip of instigating violence in Uitenhage during the last week

ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay are Mamparas of the Day – Bu$inessCoachEdu – 28 October 2016: So the ANC in the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality has accused the DA counillor Rano Kayser of causing Rosie Daemons of the ANC to faint during the council meeting necessitating her to be hospitalized. How did Kayser cause this fainting spell. Well, Kayser did the terrible thing of “showing blood to Daemons” during the council meeting. Blood that was gushing from Kayser’s open head wound that resulted from having a large glass jug smashed over his head by ANC council members. How does that logic work. You assault your opponent – then blame your victim for the emotional distress of seeing them bleed. What a bunch of…
