Intermittent water supply continues in parts of NMBM

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality continues to experience water disruptions in some parts of the City.

In response to this, water tankers have been dispatched to assist residents with the collection of water in the areas that are currently affected by the water disruptions due to the prolonged drought crisis.

Following the City’s decision to reduce abstraction at the Churchill Dam to preserve and maximise the low water resources, various residential areas have started to experience intermittent water supply.

The areas that continue to have water disruptions fall under the Emerald Hill zone, Driftsands zone, Lovemore Heights zone, KwaNobuhle 4 zone and Fort Nottingham zone.

“We understand that many of our residents have been affected by the disruptions. We have deployed water tankers so that residents can access water and we are expecting to increase the water tank resources from next week. If we don’t reduce our consumption this could be our new way of life and we don’t want a reality where people stand in long queues for water.”

“We are once again pleading with our people to please reduce their water consumption. Those who still enjoy water coming out of their taps have to be considerate of those currently experiencing the interruptions and not abuse the little water we have left,” said Mayor Odendaal.

The affected areas include:

  • Fairview
  • Greenshields Park
  • Heatherbank
  • Kensington
  • King Edward Park
  • KwaNobuhle
  • Lovemore Heights
  • Millard Grange
  • Miramar
  • Mount Pleasant
  • Pari Park
  • Parsons Hill
  • Prince Alfred’s Park
  • Salisbury Park
  • Summerstrand
  • Walmer Heights
  • Walmer Link

There has been a slight improvement in the system due to operational adjustments and possible saving of water in some zones.

As a result, water has been restored in the areas that experienced disruptions on Friday, 24 February 2023, including the Airport, Greenbushes and Upper Lovemore Heights zones.

NMBM continues to maintain abstractions from the Kromme system in compliance to the directive from the Department of Water.

Mayor Odendaal thanked the residents who have heeded the call to save water and said “we will continue to monitor and adjust our operations to ensure that water is directed to most affected zones”.

Water tankers have been deployed at the locations below:

Builders Warehouse, Buffelsfontein KwaNobuhle, Godolozi Street KwaNobuhle, Helen Joseph Street South End Fire Station, Newton Street, Newton Park Nile Road, Perridgevale Engen Garage, Mount Pleasant Crane and Pheasant, Greenshields Park Behind Tavcor Fairview, PnP Summerstrand Schauderville area, 3rd Avenue Spar, Newton Park
