Blue Flag Status for Local Cricketing Club

Zwide-based United Brothers Cricket Club is one of 14 in the country to have been awarded “blue flag” status by Cricket South Africa (CSA) in 2022.

It has met the criteria of strong administration capabilities, adequate facilities, fielding a minimum number of teams in the league, and sustainability of coaches for the 2021/2022 season.

Clubs are required to score 90 per cent or more in their Club Quality Index evaluation for the Blue Flag Club status.

United Brothers Cricket Club will be able to wear the prestigious Blue Flag logo on all their cricket playing apparel and will also be awarded the CSA plaque of recognition.

“Eastern Province Cricket extends our sincere congratulations to United Brothers Cricket Club on their achievement of attaining the CSA Blue Flag Club status,” says Eastern Province Cricket (EPC) chief executive officer Eugene Jacobs.

“This bears testimony to all their hard work and dedication to cricket in the area.

“We wish them well and may this serve as an inspiration to the management and players of the team and others in our region.

“A big thank you also to the administrators of the past who played a role in the club being where it is today,” says Jacobs.

“It is an honour for the club to be awarded the Blue Flag status,” says Brothers Cricket Club chairperson Siyabulela Luzipho.

“The award is due to the commitment by the players of the club, both men and ladies, as well as the continuous efforts and hard work by both the executive and the veterans of the club.

“Thank you to CSA and EPC. We sincerely hope that we can continue to work together to improve the game of cricket,” he says.

In its statement announcing the award, CSA states: “congratulations to the executive and players of United Brothers Cricket Club on this worthy achievement.

“The Blue Flag Club Status is a recognition of the dedication and hard work of all those involved in the club. We look forward to the continued growth of the club.”
