The new Southern Kings home and away kits were unveiled today ahead of their first Super Rugby game against the Western Force on 23 February 2013 at Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. A black home and white away kit were ‘modeled’ by Luke Watson (Captain) and Mpho Mbiyozo.
Clearly delighted with the kit and the progress of the Southern Kings to Super Rugby, Cheeky Watson had a few choice words to say to the local rugby supporters who insist on attending games in support of rival teams. In essence Cheeky challenged each and every one to show a little bit of home gees and get behind the team that has been instrumental in bringing big name international, national and provincial teams to Port Elizabeth over the last two years. And, yes Cheeky is correct in calling out those who bitch about the lack of local rugby and spit in the faces of local players and administrators by supporting ‘foreign’ teams.
The Southern Kings will turn out against the Griquas on Wednesday 13 February and in a thank you to local fans the ticket prices have been slashed to R30.00.
It was nice to see Alan Solomons acknowledge players, like Mpho Mbiyozo, who had traveled the long road over 2.5 years to the Southern Kings.

Southern Kings replica jerseys will be available to the general public from 15 February 2013 (quick, postpone Valentines Day!) and retails for R599.00. Stockists include selected Totalsports Stores, Brian Bands, Action Sports Retailers, The Footballer & Sports, Top Gear, Sportsmans Warehouse and Bertram Sports.

@DavidSpohr @RuggaWorld @MyPE true, its not ideal, but then no company would sponsor a team that might only be in Super Rugby for 1 year.

@DavidSpohr @davidoelofse @MyPE True, quite sad, but very true and very, very interesting in fact. Maybe their asking too much?

The Southern Kings are a franchise, hence a new all-black jersey, but I would have liked it to be red and black to reflect EP tradition.

I reckon the Southern Kings should have stuck with this jersey. pic.twitter.com/6tIQyjuc

the Southern Kings would wear an all black jersey-the supporters bought the red supporters one from the EP Kings-boosting retail sales?
