New loveLife Youth Centre in Uitenhage

The Chairman of the Volkswagen Group South Africa, Mr Hubert Waltl, today turned the first sod at the site of the new loveLife Youth Centre in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage. Also in attendance were VWSA MD David Powels, Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor, Zanuxolo Wayile, Members of the Board of Volkswagen Group South Africa, members of the Shop Steward Council, loveLife Trust Chairman Mpho Makwana and CEO Grace Matlhape, and local Ward Counsellors.

loveLife – South Africa’s national HIV prevention initiative for young people, was the obvious choice to run this Volkswagen legacy project. The R20m loveLife Youth Centre aims to make a meaningful impact in the lives of the youth of the Uitenhage area. It will be a youth-friendly clinic offering specialised counselling services and support for teens and parents and at the same time provide outreach programmes to 20 surrounding schools reaching an estimated 20,000 young people annually. The centre will be funded by a Volkswagen AG donation and managed by the loveLife Organisation, it is scheduled to open on 1 December this year, on World AIDS Day.

At the sod-turning, Volkswagen Group South Africa MD, David Powels said “Volkswagen Group South Africa and Volkswagen AG believe this key project will have a very positive impact on the community of KwaNobuhle and the surrounding areas for future generations.”
