Netconnect to the Rescue

11 February 2012 By Alan Straton

So this week was a nightmare in terms of connectivity with Seacom’s cable playing hide and seek with all.

On Friday morning I especially got to my desk at 5:00 am in order to catch up on all the backlog from my nightmare week – only to find that I couldn’t connect at all to the interverse. A quick traceroute saw that the bit and bytes were falling off a precipice somewhere in the IS backbone and not making it offshore at all.

Ho hum the air was blue and I fired up the laptop with my 3G connection, looked for a service update on Axxess, saw none and proceeded to fill in a ticket to find out just how long the interverse would be unavailable via IS. Bugger, everytime I pressed submit I got an error. After four attempts I gave up and dialled the help number. So, I waited 15 minutes the first time with no luck (before 6:00 in the morning I might add) and then tried again just after 6:30 am and WAITED 25 minutes (sure, my phone clock could be wrong but I doubt it).

Slightly exasparated I turned to the interverse and Tweeted a little plea for help to Axxess and Seacom:

AND, what happened? Young Adrian Karth from Netconnect tweeted me back offering me a free test account with no upstream issues:

Bloody marvellous that someone else offers assistance.

Anyway, MyPE is now the proud owner of a Netconnect Telkom/SAIX bandwidth account to back up the Seacom/IS/Axxess uncapped account (make spitting noise here) – as it seems to be falling over quite a lot lately.

Enkosi, Thank You, Dankie, Obrigado Adrian.

How awesome is this – Adrian Karth from Netconnect wrote to me; “Glad to support a great PE institution.” Ye gods how far has humble little old MyPE come?
