In this notice published today in The Herald the word DISTRICT is spelled as DITRICT – would you trust a committee that doesn’t spell properly or edit their own adverts to set up name changes?
As purveyors of the written word we at MyPE find it difficult to imagine that the fault lies with The Herald.
In 2018, the Eastern Cape Provincial Geographical Names Committee (ECPGNC) held several public hearings to discuss various local name changes.
The ECPGNC has now advised that the following preferred names are likely to be recommended out of those proposed:
- That Port Elizabeth be renamed Gqeberha,
- that Port Elizabeth International Airport be renamed Chief David Stuurman,
- that Uitenhage be renamed Kariega,
- that Uitenhage’s Rosedale township be renamed Kamesh and
- all NU Names to be abolished.
As citizens, business leaders, and key stakeholders, you have a right and responsibly to participate in this transformative process.
The opportunity to object to – or comment upon – the proposed names has been extended for an additional 21 days and expires on 6 December 2019.
