Municipal Service Closures

14 June 2013 By Alan Straton

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has confirmed that the Mfanasekhaya Gqobose Building (formerly Eric Tindale Building) in Govan Mbeki Avenue is still closed for business. This follows the labour unrest that saw staff from the Budget and Treasury Directorate abandoning their workstations follwoing dissastisfaction about issues such as regrading and uniforms. Residents who wish  to make payments can do so at any of the Municipality’s Customer Care Centres or, alternatively, at any Post Office in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Municipal Libraries still closed

Regarding the go-slow experienced in municipal libraries since the beginning of June around issues such as the reevaluation of staff positions, in terms of which the libraries have closed their doors to the public, the Municipality confirms that negotiations between the unions and the relevant municipal directorates are continuing. It is hoped that a resolution to the situation will be reached next week. No fines will be imposed on library members whose books fall due during in the period of the go-slow.

The Municipality has apologised to residents for any inconvenience caused and will keep them informed of developments.

Thanks for the clarity on the go-slow at the libraries. I’ve been unable to renew my membership card for the last two weeks.

Anyway please add a direct link to the petition as your post is not pulling through the Tweet. UD News & Die Burger will be running a story on the petition shortly https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/re-open-public-libraries-in-port-elizabeth-uitenhage-on-saturdays
