Johannesburg, South Africa – An industry hard hit by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourism sector, particularly those who proudly represent and advocate for it, need our support as they look to the future and what it holds for them. It is in times like these that when given the opportunity to shine a bright light on South African tourism, through initiatives such as the global Mrs. Tourism Pageant, we can be proud of those who actively participate in building awareness not only about South Africa but the industry at large.
Talitha Oosthuizen is one such individual we can support as the sector tries to recover from a damaging two years. She has spent many years in tourism as an entrepreneur and tour operator. The 38-year-old from Johannesburg is the co-owner of Bush Whisper Expeditions CC & Total Plastics. Bush Whisper Expeditions is a tour operator specialising in tailored safaris in the Southern and East Africa regions.
Talitha is also a patron of the Bush Whisper Foundation. Their goal is to assist several organisations that have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the past year. The foundation has been raising funds through various channels, one of them being an online shop which retails a variety of local products such as custom kitchen and pet apparel made with locally sourced shweshwe material. The foundation will also be hosting a fund raiser later this year where Talitha and the team will be launching a custom clothing range. Furthermore, Talitha hopes to summit Mount Kilimanjaro to create much needed awareness about the plight of the industry.
Talitha has been nominated as Mrs. Tourism South Africa and will be representing her country in the upcoming finals. The 4th Mrs. Tourism Pageant: A Mother Who Cares for The World will hold its virtual finals on the 3rd of August 2021. This initiative brings together women in tourism, from all corners of the world, highlighting the important roles they play in their respective country’s tourism industries.
“I am really proud to be representing South Africa next week in the Mrs. Tourism Pageant. Being part of a global platform that not only supports women in our industry but helps create awareness about the industry’s challenges, is incredibly special and close to my heart. We have a special and beautiful country, with so much to offer to both locals and international travellers. Tourism is a passion of mine, and I want to see us get back on our feet and prosper together,” says Talitha.
Should she be crowned Mrs. Tourism 2021, Talitha aims to focus on and highlight the ongoing challenges the tourism industry faces, particularly with regards to the past year and a half of severe restrictions. “I believe that we can faces these challenges head on and accomplish much by standing together and uniting as one, concludes Oosthuizen
Let’s rally behind Talitha as she represents South Africa next week and hopes to grow awareness of the tourism industry.
