Mother Earth

On the 15th September 2010, I was privileged at the invitation of Enviroserve Waste Management to attend presentations by Graham Terry Senior Executive:  Strategy and Thought Leadership, SAICA on “Why sustainable development is critical to business strategy” and Cormac Cullinan, Director, Cullinan & Associates Inc. and En Act International: Perspectives from Copenhagen, Bonn and Cochabamba and the long term implications for the waste sector.

Graham Terry emphasised the need for Corporate leaders to embrace sustainability to ensure future profitability.

I was so inspired by these presentations that in terms of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth I feel I must promote Environmental protection as much as I can, hence the following comments.

All beings that constitute mother earth have the following fundamental rights:

  • the right to life and to exist;
  • the right to regenerate its bio-capacity and to continue its vital cycle and processes free from human disruptions;
  • the right to water as a source of life;
  • the right to clean air;
  • the right to integral health
  • the right to be free from contamination, pollution and toxic or radio-active waste.

The understanding of and harmony with nature is essential in a world where we experience total abuse causing irreversible damage.

We should all be addressing how we’ve been operating and be willing to change our behavioural patterns.  Destructive behaviour should cease and the natural self-correction of the earth be allowed to take place.

Food for thought all-beit maybe too late and placing future generations in jeopardy.
