Mlibo Spanks Metro

I get the feeling that the MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mlibo Qoboshiyane supports our Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile wholeheartedly in his thankless internal politically charged, back stabbing job.

I have said it countless times before and will say it again and again; “Leave Wayile alone and let him lead – this constant interference from within his own political party and unnecessary sniping from civil society and opposition parties is only serving to lead our Metro further down into the abyss.” The decent thing to do is to put Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Despatch citizens first and petty politics second.

For once can we not stand together and uplift the economic welfare of our metro so that when it comes to election time we actually have something of value to fight for? There are far too many Neros in council.

Consider these take away lines from Zanoxolo Wayile and Mlibo Qoboshiyana at the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and the South African Breweries on Tuesday morning (See: http://mype.co.za/new/2012/11/and-not-a-fanta-brown-in-sight/):

Wayile:

  • “I am the Mayor who must go into the Guinness Book of Records for taking the most political blows”
  • “The marriage with SAB is a strategic and not a tactical one”
  • “.. there are a lot of bogus heroes who seek to plunge us into political confusion.”
  • “Now is the time to focus our energies on the Metro and build sustainable communities for our children.”

Qoboshiyana:

  • “We are supposed to embrace humility and not humiliation.”
  • “The time for us to walk the talk is now.”
  • “In times of war there are soldiers of peace.”
  • This Metro is supposed to be a benchmark for the Eastern Cape.”
  • “What have you done in your small corner?”
  • “How is it possible that houses built recently can be washed away in the floods whilst houses built 40 years ago are still standing?”
  • “The time of comradeship is past.”
  • “We are expecting the appointment of a municipal manager on 6 December 2012, FINISH.”
  • “We need to restore business confidence”
  • “Complement rather than compete with each other.”
  • “How can we proud of our ‘record’ of having a Metro with an Acting Manager since 2009?”
  • “The staff turnover at executive level is giving us a bad name.”

As a sideline observer in this petty little political struggle that is occurring in the Metro I have one observation for all involved; “My vote will go to the group that demonstrates strong leadership capable of setting a realistic goal to get us out of this mess and set us once again on the path to economic and societal success.”
