Mike is too Polite and Nice So I will say FARG OFF for him

26 January 2011 By Alan Straton

One of the lone people continually promoting Port Elizabeth as the watersport capital of South Africa (at least) and the world (at best!) is Michael Zoetmulder from Zports. One of the events that he presents is the regular Ocean Racing Series (ORS) at the “used to be Blue Flag” Hobie Beach. The ORS consists of a number of swimming, paddling and running events for competitors to take part in and stand a chance to win prizes.

In his recent newsletter Michael writes:

At the last race day, we had two people who came to us concerned about their partners who hadn’t completed the swim yet… When asked what their race numbers were they said they hadn’t entered and just joined in for the swim. THIS IS NOT playing the game and anyone caught cheating in this manner may be banned from all future Zports events.

All athletes are required to ensure that before the start of the event of the race they have entered and that they have their race day wrist band on. Water safety and marshals have (sadly) been instructed to stop anyone who is not wearing their wrist bands and prevent them from continuing with the race. In the case of the Ocean Swim, anyone not wearing your ORS swim cap will be stopped and failure to produce a wrist band will result in removal from the race arena.

Michael – you are being far too nice – I say hang, draw and quarter the morally corrupt bastards, fit them out with a nice pair of concrete shoes and use them as a boat anchor, dangle them from the end of the Shark Rock Pier, use them as shark bait or ‘accidently’ run over them with a rubber duck.

You have been warned!

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
