Metrorail Port Elizabeth / Uitenhage Schedule

Spurred on by my recent desire to travel via train to Cape Town and Durban and finding out to my utter disappointment that that service does not exist I did a bit of research to see what trains are running and when as part of the Port Elizabeth Uitenhage Metrorail service.

Just a quick note – the schedule does not appear on the official Metrorail web site, neither does the telephone number for the Port Elizabeth or Uitenhage offices (are we feeling small and insignificant yet?). I phoned the Port Elizabeth Metrorail number printed in the White Pages and it rang and rang, so I dialled the Johannesburg Head Office and listened to train music for 10 minutes before giving up and phoning the East London Office who gave me the new number for their PE Offices.

Unfortunately both the Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage offices were unable to e-mail me the train schedules so I asked them to dictate it to me.

Editors Note: Surely there is a lesson to be learned from the above, Mr Brian Molefe?

The Port Elizabeth / Uitenhage Metrorail Schedule:

Uitenhage to Port Elizabeth Monday to Friday – Trains leave at:

• 5:30 am
• 6:35 am
• 7:00 am
• 4:30 pm
• 5:35 pm

Port Elizabeth to Uitenhage Monday to Friday – Trains leave at:

• 5:43 am
• 2:25 pm
• 4:12 pm
• 5:15 pm
• 6:25 pm

Uitenhage to Port Elizabeth Saturday – Trains leave at:

• 6:45 am

Port Elizabeth to Uitenhage Saturday – Trains leave at:

• 1:45 pm

No trains presently run on a Sunday or on Public Holidays (this may be revised though)

Prices as at 29 October 2012:
1st class:

• R13.50 one way
• R27.00 return
• R105.00 weekly
• R316.00 monthly

3rd class:

• R7.50 one way
• R15.00 return
• R49.00 weekly
• R147.00 monthly
