Massive Metrowind turbines being offloaded

The first shipload of the Metrowind renewable energy turbines in Port Elizabeth arrived on Thursday 6 June for delivery to Basil Read Matomo – a subsidiary of Basil Read, the JSE-listed construction, mining, development and engineering group tasked with erection of the turbines.

The turbines are being transported on two ships from China –  the first of which arrived on Thursday 6 June and the second ship load is expected on Saturday 8 June 2013.

The turbine components are currently being offloaded at the harbour and this is likely to last for a week. Thereafter the process of transporting them on road to the site will begin and erection of the turbines is expected to begin by mid-July 2013.
