Mandela Day Food Parcels Delivered to Missionvale Care Centre

25 July 2011 By Alan Straton

The sound of singing and echoes of appreciation accompanied the delivery of 100 food parcels to the Missionvale Care Centre, by Afri-Save Cash & Carry, last week.

The 100 food parcels each contained 14 items including maize meal, baked beans, sugar, tea, oil, rice, a water bucket and other essential items needed by people and are valued at around R30 000.00 in total. The food parcels were shared amongst families with members who have fallen victim to HIV/AIDS.

Thousands of people in the Nelson Mandela Bay area are infected with the life-threatening disease and it is difficult for these people to support their families and provide them with even the most basic items that is normally just taken for granted.  “It is important for Afri-Save to be sure that the items we donate go to people who are in real need of it and working with the Missionvale Care Centre we are insured of this happening and knowing that we made a difference in someone’s life is truly a great pleasure for us”, said Munir Jeeva, Director of Afri-Save, who headed the organising of the food parcels for the Missionvale Care Centre.

The Missionvale Care Centre was founded 24 years ago by Sister Ethel Mormoyle who realised that there was a big need for assistance by the people in this community. The community members based in this area are amongst the poorest in the Nelson Mandela Bay and this organisation strives to bring relief to some of its members.

People are encouraged to keep the spirit of Ubuntu alive, even after the 67 minutes given on Nelson Mandela Day. If you would like to assist the Missionvale Care Centre in their mission to assist the less fortunate, please contact Linda on 076 873 6699 for more information.
