Looking for what to do in winter?

MyPE recently contributed a short piece to Webjet – an online flight booking portal.

There is one rule about the wind in South Africa’s THIRD Windiest City – Port Elizabeth; “There will be wind every month with an ‘R’ in it!” Consequently not many people are aware that the winter months of May, June, July and August are some of PE’s most spectacular during the year. These are the months that weary sailors dedicate to home maintenance and improving that golf handicap.

Winter is also beach time with superb waves and clear water.

Two winter activities that bring enthusiasts to PE are water related:

  • Noordhoek Ski Boat Club’s annual Divefest from 13 to 16 June this year is an orgy of incredible diving, with divers choosing from 19 dive spots less than a half hour’s boat trip from the beach. International divers return year after year saying that the dive spots in Algoa Bay offer some of the most accessible and incredible dive spots in the world.
  • Algoa Bay offers some of the best whale and sardine run bait ball action along the coast. Operators will take you close to whales or to dive in a Sardine Bait Ball whilst thousands of dolphins, gannets, penguins, sharks and even the occasional whale indulge in a feast.
