Khumbula – an Alexan Musical Trip Down South Africa’s Memory Lane

19 April 2011 By Alan Straton

Alexander Road High School

Music and cultural excellence is synonymous with the name of Alexander Road High School and Port Elizabeth. This year’s performance promises much of the same. Sporting a talented cast of 42 Alexan members, Khumbula (Remember) will take its audience on a fun-filled, foot-stompingly nostalgic journey, which they will remember forever! Audiences can look forward to experiencing songs like Weeping, Homeless, Vulindlela, My Kind of Girl and a host of others. The singers and dancers will be accompanied by members of the Alex Concert Band, under the baton of Nici Coleman.

The production team of Wendy Doubell, Greg Everard and Nadine Kemp (directors); Nici Coleman (musical director); Debbie Everard (arrangement), and Meggan Botha (choreography) boasts names which are well-known in the Port Elizabeth theatre community.

Technical training for Alex’s own Backstage Crew comes from such gifted people as Dave Limbert on lighting and Neil Thomson, together with Brendan Samuels on sound. The actual work for the performances will be done by the Alex pupils.

Book at the Alexander Road High School Bursar’s office for the run which is from 3 – 7 May at 19h30 in the Percy Walker Hall. Ticket are available at R30, R40 and R50. Bring your family to join the Alex Family and enjoy an awesome evening’s entertainment together.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
