Johnny Clegg’s first concert in PE after about a decade was truly top-notch entertainment!

Nothing beats the excitement and the energy of watching an engaging singer/songwriter and his band live. We were not disappointed, all the well known and loved hits were in the mix “Kilimanjaro”, “The Crossing”, “Scatterlings of Africa”, “Asimbonanga”, “Impi” etc. And some new songs, too, such as the haunting “Love in the Time of Gaza” and “Nyembezi (Tears)”. What made the afternoon even more special, was the insight he gave us into the meaning of some of the songs. Who knew that “The Crossing” was based on a Zulu belief that a departed person’s soul undergoes a transition from this world to the next, which is considered a crossing over.

After all these years, Johnny Clegg still keeps it fresh, interesting and relevant. The man is genuine, personable, and extremely interesting to listen to.

And he’s still got the moves…..!

Thank you for an energising, uplifting and inspiring performance, Johnny Clegg and band! Please do not be a stranger to our shores in the time to come!!
