Carnivore vs Vegan – the next global war?

Gordon Wright recently wrote an article for the Daily Maverick titled; “The Great Meat vs Plant Debate: Has everyone gone completely mad?”

Essentially Wright concludes that BOTH factions on either side of the debate are wrong when he says: “The reality is that intensive factory farming of both meat and vegetable-based products is a huge global business and is massively detrimental to the environment. Either way, animals suffer. So both sides are wrong.”

Wright is right but errs by not saying that without a wake up call from, let us say, the ‘Loony Vegan Brigade’, society will continue destroying our planet. Wright also fails to point out that moving to a plant based diet really opens up one’s eyes to the destruction and cruelty going on which we as consumers have forced farmers into doing as a result of our insatiable greed.

As one who started this journey many years ago and having successfully completed these steps;

  1. Pescatarian
  2. Vegetarian
  3. No Alcohol
  4. No Sugar
  5. Vegan
  6. And, some would add, No Personality,

I can attest that my next major move is to become as self sufficient as possible in terms of food that I can graze on. Yes, that will probably be the biggest step in my journey but as one moves along the pathway you realise that living a kinder life is actually very fulfilling.

So, instead of pronouncing everyone ‘wrong’ maybe Wright should be encouraging everyone to grow, harvest, kill, process as much of their own food as possible as a means to a better, kinder, more loving life.

And by the way Vegans – processed food is still processed food whether it contains animal products or not.
