Many parents struggle to keep their children entertained over the end of year holidays, especially when the kids would prefer to be the ones doing the entertaining! Impact Community Theatre has an exciting initiative, now in its third year, for young people aged 7 to 17 years who love to sing, dance, act or would like to learn what goes on backstage. This holidays, in just 3 weeks, our cast will learn, rehearse and perform over 30 classic animated movie numbers in the, all new, 2025 production of Music! Movies! Magic!.
Impact Community Theatre (formerly the PE G&S Society) has already had an exciting year, producing 6 unique and entertaining shows for the local theatre loving community. Their latest offering was the smash hit musical Grease, seen by almost 5000 enthusiastic audience members. Music! Movies! Magic!, as part of the Holiday Theatre Project, will kick off the 2025 theatre year in a celebration of the wonderful songs brought to us in our favourite family movies, from the classics to the latest releases.
Auditions for Music! Movies! Magic!, will be held at the Savoy Theatre on Sunday 1 st December and young people and their parents who would like to know more about the project and how to register for auditions are strongly encouraged to attend the MMM Information session at 2.00pm on Sunday 10 th November 2024 at the Savoy Theatre. Impact President Rose Cowpar is co-directing MMM, as it’s affectionately known, for the third time and says “Everyone said putting on a show with just 2 weeks rehearsal is crazy but it’s been one of the most incredibly rewarding and successful projects we do here at Impact. MMM is a wild ride once rehearsals start so the Information session is great opportunity to find out if this is the right fit for your family and to get some inside advice about what the creative team are looking for and how to prepare”.
This year, as well as the Information Session, Impact is presenting workshops for the Savoy Drama Club to help all those budding performers shine at their auditions. Impact has made development their number one focus and every production this year has seen people of all ages and experience levels, especially young people, being given training, mentoring and the opportunity to shine in whatever aspect of theatre making they enjoy.
A popular initiative for our Impact Youth has been the Savoy Drama Club, a fortnightly chance to learn, make new friends and gain experience in all aspects of performing. There is no contract or startup fee for Drama Club, young people can come when their family’s schedule allows and pay on the day. Drama Club is just R50 for 3 hours of workshops by respected local professionals.
Impact members or their children pay only R40. In November, the Savoy Drama Club will run on Sundays the 3rd and 17th from 13:00 to 16:00 at the Savoy Theatre in Adcockvale. Both of these Drama Club sessions will focus on preparing and succeeding at auditions but will be fun for everyone whether children are planning to audition or not. There will be optional Auditions workshops looking at preparation and getting feedback running alongside singing and dance workshops where everyone will learn a popular song and all the cool dance moves to perform it.
Anyone wanting more information about the Music! Movies! Magic! Auditions or the Savoy Drama Club should contact Rose Cowpar on 072 906 1977. The link to register for auditions will be open from 10/11/24 on the Impact Community Theatre Facebook page.
