As a follow up to our latest noise pollution saga at the NMB Stadium I dug out of my archives the following change to Standard Operating Procedure as promised to myself and Stadium neighbours in an e-mail dated 31 October 2012:

We have met as stadium management and concluded the following in order to ensure you do not have a similar experience to this past weekend in future.

  1. Times of events: We will be mindful of start and finishing times of public events being held at the stadium and will communicate these to the residents North End, Kensington and Parsons Hill areas. Although times are set by event organizers and approved by the city, we will ensure that specifically public events fall within reasonably assigned times and have communicated this to the city to observe when approving events. This also applies to events that are held on the grounds as opposed to inside the stadium.
  2. Communication with the neighbourhoods surrounding the stadium: We plan to make contact with Ward councilors and residents association heads in order to effectively distribute our line-up so that those closest to the stadium can anticipate high activity and potential noise periods. Posters will be displayed at local café’s and we will do a quarterly line-up pamphlet distribution in nearby areas.
  3. Measurement of Noise during events: As the stadium operator we feel it is not enough for us to host events and be assured by the organizers that they fall within the required limits, we have now ordered our own noise level meter in order to ensure that events stay within the set limits of each permit acquired.

I can honestly say that points one and two were definitely NOT followed. I concede that point three MAY be correct and await documented proof of the noise levels from last night as measured by Stadium Management.
