The Newton Park Sector Crime Forum (NPSCF) and Neighbourhood Watch, which covers the Newton Park, Glenhurd and Adcockvale Ext areas will be presenting a talk by Business Against Crime MD, Bryan Howard, titled “Homeowners Safety and Security”.
The meeting will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, 1 February 2011 from 18h30 at Elizabeth Place, Pickering Street.
A security guard will be on duty in this otherwise safe venue.
Business Against Crime (Eastern Cape) is a registered NPO, established in 1997. They manage a variety of crime-fighting projects in the province, including the “Rapid Urban Response” (RUR), “Rapid Rural Response” (RRR) and Anti-truck & cargo-heist initiative.
The Newsletter, nomination forms for the upcoming election of a new committee & copies of the constitution will be available at the NPSCF February meeting
The NPSCF will also be looking for nominations to the following portfolios for the AGM on 1 March 2011: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Patrol Co-ordinator and Additional Members (as required).
The Community Police Forum objectives according to Sec 18 of SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995) are:
- Establishing and maintaining a partnership between the community and the Service
- Promoting communication between the Service and the community
- Promoting co-operation between the Service and the community in fulfilling the needs of the community regarding policing
- Improving the rendering of police services to the community at national, provincial, area and local levels
- Improving transparency in the Service and accountability of the Service to the community
- Promoting joint problem identification and problem-solving by the Service and the community.
Of course cutting through all the jargon the above means; “Based on the principle of the squeaky wheel theory, the advantage of a strong CPF is a reduction in crime in your area.”
Come on now people the time has come for you to walk your neighbourhood and help those people who are lost without a reason to be wandering around in your neck of the woods to find their way and bugger off.
