Ernie Schmidt, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty controller, said:
At 17h22, Thursday, 05th July, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew were activated following eye-witness reports of a male teenager being swept out to sea by rip currents at Albatross Beach.
Our duty crew responded to our sea rescue base to prepare to launch sea rescue while NSRI shore crew and rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene.
On our shore crew and rescue swimmers arriving on the scene we found a 14 year old male, from Vredenburg, safe on the beach.
A surfer, who noticed the teenager in trouble, had gone to his aid and had managed to get the teenager to the beach safely.
The teenager suffered only some scratches to his leg and he otherwise was not injured and he was taken into the care of his brother and no further assistance was required.
NSRI commend the surfer who rescued the teenager but no details of the surfer could be obtained as he had left the scene to continue surfing.
